Flappin is my VR take on the classic Flappy Bird concept. The core loop is simple—flap your arms to keep your character in the air and navigate through endless obstacles—but the design challenge was translating that mobile mechanic into a full-body VR experience. I focused on creating an intuitive locomotion system that feels playful and physically engaging, while still keeping the original spirit of the game intact.
On the technical side, I built custom systems for obstacle spawning, variable difficulty scaling, and optimized object pooling to maintain performance on standalone headsets. The player movement was prototyped and refined to balance effort with responsiveness, ensuring that the flapping mechanic feels fun without becoming tiring too quickly. I also handled all environment design, shader adjustments, and performance profiling to keep the experience smooth across devices.
Finally, I put significant effort into polish: tuning audio feedback, adding particle and screen-space effects, and designing a clean UI to support replayability. The end result is a snack-sized VR app that showcases how I approach rapid prototyping, iteration, and optimization—taking a well-known mechanic and reimagining it as something playful, immersive, and worth sharing in VR
